Little brethren come together
as one unit of trust
Little old lady’s not getting
the bus
Grandad is pulling up potatoes
with his sleeves rolled up
Sister is gathering nutmeg
and cloves
Mother is making dinner for us
How are you? How have you been?
Shall we sit down at watch the Queen?
Shall we open presents at three?
Wrapped with love so personally.
Dinner is at 6 O’clock after Bond
Go outside for a smoke at five
Come back into the warm and
open a bottle of beer I don’t want
a lot of fuss this Christmas
I don’t know why I feel as such but
There’s not that much to celebrate
But I’ll get up before dawn anyway
and Read Ted Hughes this Christmas Day.
