There But Not Quite

There but not quite
Something on the bottom of my foot
reminds me I am still fit
as I knock it to the floor
There but not quite
I text a reply with a smile
waiting for your reply
To complete the moment
There but not quite
Cash machine in the wall
says you have enough
for your second choice
but not your first
There but not quite
You see long hair in the mirror
that can be worn open or up
like a fairytale princess
There but not quite
You speak to your Dad
And realise that you’d
rather be alone
There but not quite
Music on the stereo
inspires you to write
but you still
can’t get it right.
There but not quite.
