The Abyss

as I understand it life is a boat

A capsize may make you splutter

or even drown in the sea. Get into

gear you may need it. Who knows

what swarms currents and swells

beneath. Strange fishes, flying fish

birds and moths blown out to sea.

Over land. Hard rock in sand filled

coves where the waves lap gently.

Always promising more, changing

often and diurnal like you. The rudder

steady we sail away into the abyss.
